Your Internship POL should be approximately 10-15 minutes long, and cover the following basic topics ( Monday and Tuesdays blog posts) 1. A presentation of your project, which should represent a culmination of your work that is meaningful to both your organization and you. 2. A thoughtful articulation of some of your ideas about the professional world as well as your reflections of your personal growth during your internship experience. Include your thoughts about the importance of advocacy and communication. * A short question and answer session will follow your 10-minute presentation. Please initiate a round of questions after your presentation. Be sure to consider the following: 1. You will need to show "evidence" (which can come in a multitude of forms): photos, videos, work samples, quotes, performance reviews, etc. 2. Your blog entries, mentor interviews & photos will be very helpful in preparing for your POL, and provide some of the raw material to create your POL. 3. Every internship is different, so every POL needs to be different. There is no script. 4. There will be a question & answer session (hopefully a conversation) at the conclusion of your presentation. 5. Internship POL's are graded as "pass" or "re-do." We are looking for legitimate thought & reflection as evidenced by a high quality, thoughtful presentation & conversation. 6. The POL is a formal presentation and appropriate attire is expected. (Unless presentation expectations have been worked out with your mentor and internship advisor)Like all the other POLs, remember that you will also be assessed on eye contact, voice, and tone.

1. While working with the theatre I developed many new appreciations for my classmates. Although that may sound weird I never realized how much one's company really means. I do enjoy my mentors and they're wonderful people but the experience of doing work surrounded by friends that I've known for years is a feeling that I appreciate a lot more now knowing that soon we will all be going our separate ways.
But the thought of us going our separate ways is also an exciting thing to think about because although I will never have the same experience I had here at Ion Theatre, I feel a lot more confident in myself and my ability to accomplish tasks for a real life job in an adult community. 2. 3. 4. 5. 1. What new appreciations did you develop while working as an intern? Why? 2. What qualities or characteristics did you see in the people around you that you want to develop in yourself? Why? 3. How did your view of life beyond high school change or develop during your time as an intern? 4. How might internship influence the direction of your life? 5. How did communication and/or collaboration at work influence your understanding of professional working environments? wqqweqw
POL Section 1—Your work as an intern Reflect on the following list of questions to guide a thoughtful reflection about your internship experience and project(s). Be descriptive and display evidence(s) for your answers. 1. How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace? 2. How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education? 3. How was your work significant or meaningful for you beyond school and your specific internship site? 4. How did your project(s) go from an idea or inspiration to a final product?Share out the process & be sure to upload evidence(s) of this work. 5. What did you learn about yourself through working on the internship project(s)? From being at this internship for a while I can honestly say that I love how open it is. I love the feeling that when my mentors tell me to accomplish something, that's all they have to do. I'm given a task and if I need help I can ask, but no one is there to baby me. The feeling of being independent and able to accomplish things on my own is something that I enjoy. And although the school sometimes allows the students to feel that way, being able to experience that in a classroom setting more often would be a fantastic experience.
Being independent is a feeling that I haven't done too many times before in the sense that I'm responsible for myself this time. Even at school when there is a single person project, there will always be warnings before you fail the project or the grade. So knowing that I am responsible for myself at this internship allows me to work harder and know that I have to put in all my effort to make sure I live up to my mentors' expectations. Over the course of the day I checked in on some of my friends' blog post to see how their internships are going as well, in particular, Ian, Lance, and Kat. They all seem to be having wonderful internship experiences and I'm glad I'm not the only one having fun being helpful in a real world community.
So it's been a few days that I've come into the Theatre to work on a wide variety of things. I've done many little things and have even started to move towards a slightly larger project, but not a final large-scale project of thoroughly updating all the marketing resources for Ion Theatre. Although this current task is taking up quite a bit of time, my thoughts for my own personal project are yet to be finalized. Some ideas that I had in mind were either write your own play or create a thorough powerpoint on the daily process and steps of a playwright. Neither of these ideas are final but they're just some starter ideas.
So my internship is a small, petite, theatre located on 6th Avenue in Hillcrest. It has a very nice flowing feel. The interior is done very well by my two mentors, Claudio and Glenn.
So my first couple of days of internship have been stay-at-home work days. During this time my assignment was to put some time into learning more about the theatre I'm interning at and make a presentation on it for my mentors the Friday after.
This assignment was actually pretty interesting despite how it may sound. I felt that learning about Ion Theatre was not only fun on it's own because of all the cool things I came across but also the opportunity to show my mentors what I am capable of on my first day back. These first impressions of myself are bound to show them that I am very much capable and I hope I am able to show them that accepting me as an intern was definitely in their best interest. There are many things to be excited about, the fact that I am doing something I have never done before is not just nerve wracking, but exciting as well. I have already been given a brief tour of the place but I am excited to be working at the theatre and doing whatever I can to contribute to the place. I'm excited about going back into a drama setting and seeing what it really takes to run a real theatre.
Some things I personally feel nervous about is that I feel that I am not up to the standards of a real theatre. I know I am probably overthinking it but just thinking about it has gotten me extremely nervous. But all in all, I feel like this will be a huge learning experience and I really look forward to it. |
